On some devices, LetsVPN may experience slow web page loading or network connection issues. After investigation, it was found that this problem may be related to the enabled IPv6 network protocol.
Currently, LetsVPN only supports the IPv4 protocol. Enabling IPv6 may cause unstable VPN performance. You can disable IPv6 by following the steps below to avoid such issues.
Windows Operation Steps
Step 1: Open Control Panel and go to “Network and Internet”.
Step 2: Select Network and Sharing Center.
Step 3: Click your connection type (WLAN or Broadband Connection).
Step 4: Click the Properties button.
Step 5: Uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and make sure Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) is checked.
After unticking the box of Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6), it will be the same as the image shown below.
Restore IPv6 on Windows
To restore IPv6, go to Network Properties and recheck Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6).
If it still doesn’t work, download the recovery script below and run it as administrator. For any issues, please contact our support team.
macOS Operation Steps
Step 1: Open Terminal (launch Launchpad, type “Terminal” in the search bar).
Step 2: Enter the command
sudo networksetup -listallnetworkservices
and press Return.
Step 3: When prompted, enter your Mac device password (the password will not appear on the screen), then press Return.
Step 4: After execution, all network interfaces and their names will be displayed.
Step 5: In the Terminal app, disable IPv6 for both Wi-Fi and Ethernet interfaces using the following commands:
Disable IPv6 on Wi-Fi:
sudo networksetup -setv6off Wi-Fi
Disable IPv6 on Ethernet
sudo networksetup -setv6off Ethernet
Restore IPv6 on macOS
To restore IPv6, enter the following commands in Terminal:
Restore IPv6 on Wi-Fi:
sudo networksetup -setv6automatic Wi-Fi
Restore IPv6 on Ethernet
sudo networksetup -setv6automatic Ethernet
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Will disabling IPv6 affect my normal internet use?
A: No. Most websites and online services still use IPv4, so disabling IPv6 will not affect browsing, streaming, chatting, or work. If you rely on specific IPv6-based internal networks, remote access, or campus networks, you can re-enable it as needed.
Q: What should I do if the issue persists after disabling IPv6?
A: Please contact LetsVPN customer support via the Help Center chat in the bottom-right corner. Our engineers will assist you further.
Q: What if only IPv6 appears and IPv4 is missing in network properties?
A: This means your network only supports IPv6. Please try connecting to another network (such as a mobile hotspot or different Wi-Fi). If the issue continues, contact LetsVPN customer support via the Help Center chat in the bottom-right corner.
